Electromagnetic Field Measurements on the Azores Islands

Between June 25 and 28, SOLVIT’s engineering team successfully conducted campaigns to measure the intensity levels of non-ionizing radiation electromagnetic fields on the islands of Faial, Flores and São Miguel. This project was carried out at NAV Portugal – Azores’ NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) stations, ensuring compliance with current legislation and European safety recommendations.

The initiative comes as consequence of a recent Portuguese legislation, which adopts the limits of public exposure to electromagnetic radiation established by European Recommendation. These guidelines aim to protect the population and workers from the potential adverse effects caused by exposure to electromagnetic fields.

SOLVIT’s contribution

The measurements were carried out using state-of-the-art equipment and executed by duly qualified engineers, guaranteeing the accuracy and reliability of the data collected. SOLVIT, recognized for its competence and technical rigor, thus reassures its commitment to the safety and well-being of local communities.

NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) stations, which are essential for safe air navigation, emit radio signals that require continuous monitoring to ensure that radiation levels remain within the safe limits established by regulators. The measurements carried out demonstrated the stations’ compliance with safety standards, reinforcing the reliability and safety of air navigation operations in the region.

SOLVIT is proud to contribute to public health and safety through the rigorous execution of electromagnetic field measurements. This project in the Azores is yet another example of our ongoing commitment to technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
