WISE
The WISE (Wireless Transportation Infrastructure Safety Evaluation) project is an initiative that promises to modernise the way transport infrastructure is monitored in Portugal. By combining specialised sensor networks with satellite data and advanced artificial intelligence techniques, the project aims to increase safety and improve the efficiency of road and rail maintenance in Portugal. Funded by COMPETE 2030, as part of the Portugal 2030 European Fund, WISE is part of a wider effort to modernise infrastructures and promote the digital transition, in line with the European Union’s objectives.
- Real time satellite data.
- Continuous monitoring with low cost sensors.
- Centralized information.
- Low power, low cost and long range communications.
- Machine learning and deep learning modules.
The Hardware
For this project, a sensor is being developed to measure many features of geotechnical actives. It’s main purpose is to measure the inclination and detect abrupt activities. SOLVIT and the project partners are also integrating these results with data received from satelite to present to final consumer the product possible, where can be seen all the geoactivity present in the last months.

- LoRa
- Event Detection
- Energy Efficiency
- Accelerometer
The Platform
This central platform integrates various sources of information relevant to monitoring critical infrastructure. It can be accessed anywhere via a web interface and provides intuitive dashboards tailored to each monitoring scenario. Modern artificial intelligence techniques can also be used to process the data and predict potential threats in advance, reducing the need for human intervention, whether local or remote.
