The Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU-Rail) has officially formalized the entry of the Portuguese Alliance, led by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), as an Associate Member. This European partnership, dedicated to research and innovation in the railway sector, operates under the Horizon Europe program (2020–2027).

With the aim of strengthening Portugal’s participation in this strategic ecosystem, IP joined forces with several national entities – including universities, research centers, and companies in the sector – to establish the Portuguese Alliance and apply for Associate Member status of EU-Rail. Among these entities is SOLVIT, a key partner contributing its technological expertise and experience in developing digital platforms and innovative solutions for the railway sector.
The Portuguese Alliance’s participation will focus on intelligent and integrated asset management and the development of a sustainable and eco-friendly railway system. These objectives will be pursued through projects to be launched in 2025 and 2027, with completion expected by 2031.
This is a significant step for national railway innovation and a valuable contribution to the future of the European railway sector.
